Olivewood (Olea europaea) is a very brilliant unpredictable wood that finishes to an almost glossy look. It is very smooth and grain patterns are unpredictable but always beautiful. Olivewood hails from the continent of Africa.
Pink Ivory (Berchemia zeyheri) is an African hardwood that grows predominantly in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and South Africa. It is an extremely dense wood that allows the plugs to turn out silky smooth. The color ranges from light pink to strawberry red.
Amboyna Burl (Pterocarpus indicus) is a very colorful burl wood that comes from Southeast Asia. Amboyna ranges from a golden color to a bronze brown and is always fully of cool swirls and "eyes". Amboyna is a pleasantly unpredictable wood that always makes a beautiful and unique set of plugs!
Chechen (Metopium brownei), is a dense hardwood that comes from Mexico and Central America. This beautiful dark wood has eye catching grain patterns and displays a brilliant natural finish.
Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) is a brightly colored wood located mostly in the South Central states of the U.S. It can also be found in some Eastern states such as Virginia and Pennsylvania. Osage Orange is a very strong wood that sands to a beautiful shine and makes a great set of plugs in any size.
Bocote (Cordia elaeagnoides) is a highly figured yellow wood from Central and South America that is engrained with dark streak patterns. This wood makes a beautiful set of plugs all the way down to 12 gauge. Bocote is a must have for any wood plug enthusiast. I can assure you, you won’t be disappointed!
Bloodwood (Brosimum rubescens) is a dark reddish colored hardwood from South America. It ranges from medium red to a dark wine color and may get darker over time. Bloodwood makes a great set of plugs and is one of the most popular species for wood body jewelry.
Granadillo (Platymiscium yucatanum) is a dark colored hardwood from Mexico and Central America. Granadillo is typically dark brown in color with beautiful grain patterns running through the wood. This wood creates some of the best looking plugs out there if you are looking for the classic wood look.
Black and White Ebony (Diospyros embryopteris) comes from Southeast Asian countries such as Laos and Myanmar. It is a very hard and smooth wood that makes excellent plugs. The appearance of this wood is very unpredictable; each plug has an exclusive look just like a thumbprint. I highly recommend this wood in larger sizes.
Gaboon Ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) is jet black in color and is found in African countries around Nigeria. Some pieces have lighter streaks of color in them, but I avoid any wood that isn’t completely black. So rest assured, if you order a pair of Gaboon Ebony plugs from me, they will be solid jet black.
Marblewood (Marmaroxylon racemosum) is harvested in certain countries in South America. It is golden in color and has dark golden brown swirls and stripes coating it. A great choice, expecially in plug sizes over a half inch.
Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a classic American wood that grows on the eastern half of the country. It is light to dark brown in color with tight grains and a beautiful shine. Walnut is a nice soft wood to stick in your ears.
Zebrawood (Microberlinia brazzavillensis) is a gorgeous hardwood from West Africa that looks just like its name. It is golden yellow in color and is covered with dark zebra-like stripes. It makes a great set of plugs every time.
American Holly (Ilex opaca) is found in the Eastern Coastal states of the United States from Massachusets down to Florida. It is a very dense wood and color ranges from white to an off-white cream. This is a perfect wood for someone with darker skin that wants their plugs to stand out and say hi.
Lignum Vitae (Bulnesia arborea), also known as Vera Wood, is a tree native to Columbia and Venezuela. It is yellowish in color when it is freshly cut but turns to a stunning olive green when it is exposed to sunlight. Turn around time may be a bit longer on these plugs due to the oxidation process they have to go through to receive their awesome green-ness.
Redheart (Erythroxylon mexicanum) is a wood similar to Bloodwood but much smoother and a little darker. These plugs usually are oiled into a dark blood red color but they are as smooth as glass when finished.
Striped Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) comes from the same tree as Osage Orange but is flooded with brilliant whitish stripes.
Katalox (Swartzia cubensis) is a very dark colored wood that sometimes has a purplish hue to it. It is a very smooth wood that comes from Central America and makes a very strong, prized set of plugs. You can't go wrong with Katalox.
